(90-100 Days) Space-saving plants are easy to grow. Compact 2 to 3 foot vines are powdery mildew resistant and high yielding, producing 8 to 9 fruits per plant. Judges felt that the 6 to 7 inch fruits were slightly bigger and meatier than comparison varieties. A superb squash with a sweet, nutty flavor that really shines when baked or made into soups. 2017 AAS Regional Winner (Heartland)

flavorful and sweet
Jan 13, 2025  |  By Wisconsin grower
We've been growing these for about 5 years now. The flavor is great. They are sweeter than a traditional butternut. We have not had any notable challenges with production.

Note to the concerns of other reviewers - we are able to harvest these while they are still striped partially green, and flavor is already developed. We do start them indoors so that we can sell them earlier at our farmstand.

Long vines, full size squash
Sep 5, 2024  |  By Susan B.
I also had very long vines, at least 6-7'. It produced a few fruit, but maybe 5-6 per vine. The first and largest fruit is about 6-7" x 5"- very fat. They are all still dark green and it's about 3 weeks from frost in my zone 4b garden. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will be mature by then. My Sweet Mama are already curing on a rack in the sun. I don't think this butternut is for me.

Definitely not

I primarily bought these seeds for the compact size of "2 - 3' vines", but mine are already 6' and still growing.
