(90-100 Days) Space-saving plants are easy to grow. Compact 2 to 3 foot vines are powdery mildew resistant and high yielding, producing 8 to 9 fruits per plant. Judges felt that the 6 to 7 inch fruits were slightly bigger and meatier than comparison varieties. A superb squash with a sweet, nutty flavor that really shines when baked or made into soups. 2017 AAS Regional Winner (Heartland)

Long vines, full size squash
Sep 5, 2024  |  By Susan B.
I also had very long vines, at least 6-7'. It produced a few fruit, but maybe 5-6 per vine. The first and largest fruit is about 6-7" x 5"- very fat. They are all still dark green and it's about 3 weeks from frost in my zone 4b garden. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will be mature by then. My Sweet Mama are already curing on a rack in the sun. I don't think this butternut is for me.

I primarily bought these seeds for the compact size of "2 - 3' vines", but mine are already 6' and still growing.
