All apples require cross pollination by at least one other apple variety. Please see the end of each description for recommended pollination partners. Ornamental flowering crab trees are also good pollinators for apples. We ship 3-to-5-foot bare root whips. Soak roots for 8-24 hrs. prior to planting and tip prune 1/3 to 1/2 off the main leader immediately after planting to encourage trees to break dormancy. Cannot ship to: AK, CA, HI
Rootstocks and Tree Sizes; Jung apple trees are budded on hardy rootstocks that will withstand hot, humid summers and below zero winters. Rootstocks control the speed of growth, mature tree size, and the number years to bearing. We have selections for both large and small spaces.
DWARF apple trees grow a space-saving 6 to 10 feet tall and will produce a crop of full-size apples in just 2 to 3 years. A mature tree will average 2 to 6 bushels of fruit each year. Staking is recommended. These trees are ideal for the smaller yard and are easy to maintain - no ladders required for spraying or picking.
SEMI-DWARF rootstocks produce a tree 50 to 60% the size of a standard tree with an average mature height of 12 to 15 feet. They normally bear 3 to 5 years after planting with an average yearly yield of 8 to 12 bushels. The semi-dwarf trees are our most popular as they provide superior anchorage, hardiness, disease resistance, and wide adaptability.
STANDARD apple trees are budded onto a full size rootstock. They reach full size in 10 to 12 years with a height and spread of 20 to 25 feet; however, proper pruning can be utilized to control size somewhat. Standard trees usually begin to bear in 5 to 6 years and will yield an average of 10 to 15 bushels of fruit per year.
