Blackberry

Home grown Blackberries are a gourmet treat. Plants tolerate some shade but will yield the most fruit in a full sun location. Most blackberries will benefit from guide wires or a trellis for support. Blackberries prefer organically rich, well-draining soil that is slightly acidic. Thorny blackberry types are the most upright growing and thorn-less types tend to grow close to the ground their first seasons, with their canes becoming more upright growing after about two years and become more naturally branched. Extra care should be taken in colder climates to protect thornless varieties. Most blackberries will start producing 2-3 years from planting.
It is important to follow all planting instructions carefully, including soaking roots prior to planting, cutting the "handles" to 2-3" and giving plenty of water to establish new plants.
